Holy lord.....it hurt to read this book.
This was not a frilly book.
The killer wasn't just misunderstood.
s'Ex wasn't perfect.
There wasn't a Happily Ever After.
The death that occurred wasn't a secondary character's.
No one saved the day.
Oh my god.
I don't have words to describe what I feel for this book.
This was a heart rending, gut wrenching, sobbing through it all good hurt book. And yes it hurts to read this. I cried during the whole book. There wasn't a time during this reading that my eyes stayed dry. Not one. And it wasn't a Hunger Games cry either. The only other situation I can compare this to is when Albums Dumbledore died.
The book follows the Shadows' lives. Trez and Selena and i'Am and Catra. There is a twist that none of us saw coming at the end of this book. It was ugly. There were situations in this book-like when the bitch queen had s'Ex's daughter's chart altered and had her killed because she had commoner blood in her and he didn't save her out of respect for his traditions-that made it fuckin ugly and imperfect.
There was Selena dying and not being heroically saved because it doesn't work like that. There was i'Am and Catra sleeping together. The villain of the hour was the Queen of s'Hisbe.
This book had so many imperfections that it is the most perfect book I've read in this year.
This book revolves around the uprising of conflict between the Others and humans.
The only thing I am going to say is that I regretted that I had to go to sleep without completing this book.
Plot-5*
Cast-4*
Writing-4.5*
Alpha Female rating-4*
This is the first book I've read in quite a while that is adult and has a story. Furthermore, this book grasps attention and it keeps it till the very ending. More than I can say for books I have been forced to read and then curse their authors.
The story is about a runaway blood prophet who was formerly kept as a slave by the controller and escapes in the hope of building a life a life for herself.
The story was really good.
Good enough that I am going to download its sequel and read it right now.
World building-5/5
Plot-4/5
Cast-4/5 (I want to see more Vlad and Tess)
Writing-4.5/5
Alpha female rating-3.5/5
Okay so I am going to rave now....
Sophi.....she surprised me by her strength and her logical reasoning about stuff. I had been prepared for a poor little rich girl after reading the last book but no such thing. She is strong, straightforward and down to earth.
Which leads to Eric....
Again as I said I had been prepared for a hero who was all I man you woman but Eric is instead an amazing man was what I read about. He is a scarred man with an amazing attitude toward sex that I haven't seen in a hero for quite a while.
The story goes Krakoll brings back Allegra Contradina-the fuckin sadistic bitch-to kidnap Sophi so he can negotiate with the Tetriarch for more cinnagin and a peaceful lift off the planet but things go awry as they always do. I won't say more because reading this book has been a pleasure that I want everyone to have.
I have always had a thing for threesomes with powerful characters. And boy this book didn't disappoint.
The story is about a futuristic settlement on another planet which is sentient and is powered by sex between people who are trained to harness and feed it energy.
One of our heroes is tortured and the other is a classic warlord.
I admit I thought the princess would be a simpering miss but for a princess, she wasn't disappointing. Indeed she was alpha in a very behind the desk way. She was strong when it was needed and not at all just some figurative head. That was what made the book for me really. I don't like a book where the male characters suffocate the plot or the female. For me, the female lead makes or breaks the book and this one was definitely a keeper.
The world building was excellent. The characters all had their own niches with no one invading the other's. The female lead was capable, kind-an optional quality for me, realistic, no-drama and most importantly NOT saintly. I hate the saintly ones.
So all in all, this book hooked me to the point where I am going to download its sequel and read it to see if its anything like this one.
Okay so the only reason I went into this book was because I was suffering from Scarlett Dawn withdrawal and searching like crazy for another book with a strong female lead. I read real good things about this book.
It was.....holy shit I cannot even rant about this because I am so literally dumbstruck by the stupidity of this book.
The female lead is naive and stupid bordering on crazy. I went into this book with an open mind and I accepted her utter mortification at her first meeting with Blane. But she hides things from him and he is, quite frankly just another asshole with a Heman Complex.
It turned me off. And I stopped reading the book about 40% into it because I just couldn't stomach reading more of it.
The half star that I gave this because the plot this was going on could be so much more interesting than it was.....
This was a waste of a peperfectly good idea and my time.
